Wreck Diving
Wreck diving or wreck dives are a type of scuba diving where the divers are offered the experience of exploring a ship wreck underwater, this is the general definition of wreck diving. These are usually located at the site of the sunken ship and offer a variety of plant and animal life that goes beyond what you will find at the bottom of the ocean or on a reef without a ship wreck. Most often a group of divers will be taken to coordinates where sunken ships are and the dives will take place at the actual site of the ship wreck. However it is growing more and more popular to create areas for ship wreck diving by using older ships that have been retired and are no longer in use.
When you are deciding to take your scuba diving to a new level and offer yourself the opportunity to explore the sunken treasures of the seas (or lakes) you will find that a ship wreck dive will offer you a new and exciting experience under water. There is so much history to be explored under the oceans surface that you will literally never run out of wrecks to explore.
There are many classes you can take to prepare yourself for wreck diving. A wreck diving class will mentally and physically prepare you for the challenges of this wonderful sport. Technical wreck diving is the most advanced type of wreck diving you can do, in this area of wreck diving divers are trained to the point that they can fully explore at any level of the ship wreck as long as the wreck is stable enough for exploration. As you learn on a technical wreck diving instruction you will be allowed to explore to the capacity that your diving skills are appropriate for, the better diver and more certifications you have the more complicated or technical you can get.
As a technical wreck diver you will learn how to use wreck diving reels to mark and navigate your way through the ship wrecks you explore as well as how to safely maneuver your way out of the wreck as well as sighting other escape routes should the original become unstable. It is also always important to have a dive plan as you will learn in all wreck diving lesson plans this is a vital part of your safety and a necessary precaution to take.
Most wrecks that offer the best sights and treasures are along the depths of 150 – 330 feet down and so it is important to take every precaution for your safety as well as be certified in all the right areas before attempting a dive of this magnitude. There are other fascinating wreck dives that are not as deep and they too offer a variety of sights and treasures but as you proceed through them you will more than likely find yourself yearning to attempt those at greater depths as well. Be safe and enjoy the history and authenticity of this extreme sport in the world of scuba diving.
