What Is Scuba

Scuba Diving is a variety of things including fun and adventurous, but the actual word Scuba is an acronym for Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus. This acronym is fitting because that is exactly what Scuba Diving is all about, the ability to explore underwater with an air supply that excludes surface breathing. This is what can be so good about scuba diving it is a way to leave the land life behind for a short period of time and explore places you have never been to but may be curious about. The actual definition of scuba diving is that it is swimming that is done beneath the surface of the water with a self-contained underwater breathing apparatus, there is no reason to need air from the surface and you are equipped to stay underwater for a certain period of time because of the air supply you take with you.

Scuba diving is a sport that involves a great sense of adventure and the appeal of getting away from what many call normal life. Other reasons that scuba diving is so good is it is a form of exercise and it will help you to stay in shape and burn a few of those vacation calories you may put on while on the coast. For many scuba diving is more than just a vacation activity and you can become certified and trained in scuba diving the more you do it the more dangerous and exotic underwater destinations will await you.

Scuba diving has some negatives as well, what can be bad about scuba diving are the dangers and injuries that can occur if you are not cautious or educated correctly. These can range from AGE (Arterial Gas Embolism) to error in location and not surfacing at the correct location to meet with your transportation back to land. All of these can be avoided with good education and following the safety guidelines of scuba diving. Other dangers can include the wild life you encounter and not staying with your trainer on specific dives until you are able to dive alone. One of the best ways to avoid these dangers is to learn the swimming and diving terms and definitions in order to be properly educated and safe while scuba diving.

When you start to educate yourself on scuba diving you will learn to work underwater with a scuba tank. One of the most frequently asked questions in scuba classes is what is in a scuba tank. Really it is very similar to the air you breathe on a regular basis, the only difference is that it is filtered to improve the purity of the air and remove impurities for a better quality of air while diving.

Scuba diving offers a variety of areas and items you can explore from reefs to shipwrecks. Shipwrecks or the definition of wreck diving is when you are taken to a place of a ship wreck or an artificially created wreck to explore the history and treasures found at the site of a wreck. These are often favored recreational dives and bring a myriad of places to explore in your dive; all types of ocean wild life often inhabit these areas and make for an exciting and beautiful dive.
