Introduction To Scuba

Scuba diving is a fantastic way to experience the water our world is covered in without traveling above it. What is more exciting than swimming with Giant Green Sea Turtles or dolphins, seeing a whale shark nearby or studying the beautiful and age old reefs that make our oceans so colorful? These are all things that are offered to you through the wonderful recreational sport of scuba diving. So the next question that may be on your mind is the what, where, when and how do you get yourself into a dive suit and under the water?

There are really two ways to get into scuba diving the best and most efficient way to get under water and start exploring is to get certified. This is offered through many different associations all over the world. PADI and NAUI are two of the most popular and reputable scuba diving certification programs around. Looking them up on the internet is easy and will help you to find a dive certification center near you. If you are not sure if scuba diving is for you and you are wary of spending money on full certification right away there is another option. You can usually take a much smaller class at most hotels and resorts that will qualify you to take a 30-40 foot guided underwater dive. These are a great way to discover whether or not this is a good recreational sport that you would enjoy and spending less money.

Where you can scuba dive is a large selection. There are scuba diving locations almost anywhere there is water. You can travel to exotic destinations in Asia or Australia or you can find a place closer to home that offers off shore diving. Off shore diving does not mean you must have an ocean near by, many lakes and reservoirs inland have scuba diving expeditions with wonderful sites to see. Ocean scuba diving will offer a more diverse selection of sights but that doesn’t mean lake diving is boring by any means!

You can generally scuba dive year round, you may have to travel to do so but somewhere there is good weather and great visibility underwater for you to explore, it just depends on how far you are willing to go. Most scuba diving locations will publish the best seasons and times to take their offered dives giving you an idea of when and where you may want to visit. Most locations also offer rental of the equipment that is required for scuba diving at a cost that is much lower than purchasing the equipment, unless you plan to dive often. So get your feet wet and try a new adventure, scuba diving and all the wonders it has to offer.
